MIAMI – Joined by Jeb Bush, Jr. at a news conference today in Coral Gables, Congressman Connie Mack named Jeb Bush, Jr. as the first statewide co-chair of his campaign for U.S. Senate.
Mack stated:
"I am delighted to have the support of Jeb Bush, Jr. as my new Statewide Co-Chairman for our campaign for U.S. Senate. Jeb has proven himself as a leader amongst this region's young professionals when it comes to the issues important to South Florida, and his advice and counsel to this campaign will be important in our efforts to expose the liberal voting record of Bill Nelson, a record which is in 98% lockstep with Barack Obama."
Jeb Bush, Jr. added, "Connie has a career of doing the right thing. It was the right thing to stand up to Hugo Chavez and promote freedom in Latin America. It was the right thing to stand up to his own leadership to not raise the debt ceiling. It was the right thing to do to secure the border while preserving the rights of all Americans. And it was the right thing to do when he decided to enter the Senate race against liberal Bill Nelson when it was so clear no one else could defeat him. Today I proudly stand with Connie Mack and will work hard with him to advance the freedom of Floridians against the lockstep liberal agenda of Bill Nelson and Barack Obama."
This morning's announcement is the latest stop on Mack’s statewide campaign launch tour, which also had stops in Tampa, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Boca Raton and Ft. Myers. This tour follows an eight-day statewide tour of Florida, campaigning with Florida Presidential Primary winner, Governor Mitt Romney. During the ten-day stretch, Mack met with Republican in Jacksonville, Stuart, Orlando, Ft. Myers, and the Villages, with mutilple stops in Ft. Myers, Tampa and Jacksonville. Mack headlined the Brevard County Lincoln Day Dinner in Cape Canaveral last Friday as well. Between the two tours, Mack logged more than 4,000 road miles, meeting with voters across the state and announcing more key supporters to his campaign team.
"I have never seen any candidate work harder or get around Florida more than Connie Mack has in the last two weeks. Frankly it's breathtaking in its intensity," said longtime family friend and Republican strategist Jorge L. Arrizurieta.
"Even when he politely stood at the back of event for Newt Gingrish as part of the 'truth squad,' Connie was signing baseballs and talking to Florida Republicans about the problems facing America. It didn't seem to matter whose event it was, the response to the Mack candidacy was very enthusiastic across the state," concluded Mack’s Deputy Campaign Manger David James.
